July Favorites | Korean Skincare, Style, and Seoul

I’m moving out of my comfort zone and adding a new series to the blog and my YouTube channel, called monthly favorites. I thought this would be an easier way to share what I’m loving at the moment. A perfect way to organize my randomosity. So expect to see more about Korean skincare and beauty, wanderlust, and lifestyle.

Good golly, I can’t believe July is officially over! I need to pull out my bullet journal and re-organize my entire life because I’m not ready for summer to end. Eeek. Speaking, of being not ready, I’m moving out of my comfort zone and adding a new series to the blog and my YouTube channel, called monthly favorites. I thought this would be an easier way to share what I’m loving at the moment. A perfect way to organize my randomosity. So expect to see more about Korean skincare and beauty, wanderlust, and lifestyle.

So, without further ado, here are my July favorites.

My first favorite are the shoulder chic fro Kurly Klips. I bought them back in 2014 and refreshed them for summer 2016. I’ve been experimenting with these soft curls in a variety of hairstyles: half top knot, headwrap, and of course in its free form state). I figured I’d give this company a shout out because I love how flirty and fun, these Kurly Klips make me feel.

Moving onto my next favorite, I have the Tony Moly Shiny Foot Super Peeling Liquid mask — (woah that’s a tongue twister!) As someone who is never satisfied with a pedicure, I figured trying a foot peeling mask couldn’t hurt my calluses.

Essentially, this is a chemical peel for your feet, using BHAs and AHAs (specifically these 3 acids – lactic, glycolic, and salicylic) to break through the barrier of dead skin. The results aren’t instantaneous, it took 5-7 days for my skin to peel. But I have become a huge fan of this product and I use it once a month, for soft, smooth feet. This is definitely a product I will use year-round.

I plan to demo the product on my YouTube channel next week so be on the lookout for that.

In my last Korean skincare haul with, Aisha of SkinnygirlFathair I crowed over the awesomeness of my SkinFood Rose Essence Multi Finish highlighter.

The only thing the compact didn’t have was a gold highlighter. So while out shopping with Inge, The Dutch One, she introduced me to the Etude House Play 101 stick in #20.

This is a multi-function stick for your eyes, cheeks, and lips. While applying the product, I found it firm but creamy. I alternate between using my fingers or patting the stick alongside my face.

I love the shimmery metallic golden bronze and how it compliments my skin so well. It isn’t messy or smelly, either.

I am literally obsessed with this highlighter: typically I apply it to my cheekbones and bridge of my nose, although lately, I’ve been loving it on my collar bone – for an extra summer glow.

My next favorites are two pairs of sandals that I bought in Seoul. The first pair are these knock-off Birkenstocks from E-Mart.

I bought the husband his own in gray #couplewear and I also have another pair in black. They are super comfy and easy to slip on while running errands.

I didn’t have a pair of dressy sandals in my closet, so I picked up these black platforms from H&M. I personally love that these straps are velcro, so I don’t have to fuss with buckles or tieing anything. As you can see, I’m all about zero-fuss when it comes to style.

My last favorite is Kindred by Octavia Butler. Octavia Butler is a pioneer as the first black woman to write science-fiction and I’m embarrassed to admit, that I only learned about Butler a few months ago. Upon learning about Butler, I immediately added all of her books to my Goodreads TBR and requested Kindred from the library. I was so keen to read Butler, that I finished Kindred in one day and was just utterly enthralled with Butler’s writing.

Kindred is about a woman named Dana who is in an interracial marriage in the 70s, and on her 26th birthday, Dana is pulled through space and time to a pre-Civil War plantation in Maryland. There she meets her ancestors an annoyingly privileged prick of an ass slave owner and a free black woman, who is forced into slavery and concubinage.

Throughout Butler’s book we get a realistic depiction of slavery from Dana’s point of view – and even her husbands as he is accidently transported as well. This story is less about time travel and finding solace in the arms of a highlander, but more about overcoming the horrific reality of slavery and the moral implications of ensuring your own survival in the past and the future. Dana’s experience, made me wonder if I could survive the brutality of slavery, or would I even want too. I thought this was an excellent read and definitely, recommend to give it a read.

I love the product packaging! That’s usually what draws me to what I buy. Your hair looks great, I love it, especially up like in the first photo. I have a friend who’s lived in Seoul for 12 years, he loves it.

So happy to hear you’re watched/watched Descendants of the Sun! I’m glad it’s getting more foreign/western viewers. My daughter played the role of ‘Fatimah’! 🙂
We need to meet up to do some daring eats!
