Favorite Airbnb Stays: Perfect for Couple Travelers

I have a few  pleasures in life – white cheddar popcorn, Greys Anatomy, and secretly creating wish lists of fabulous Airbnb properties for the husband and I. Seriously, I love Airbnb because it’s a unique way to explore and discover new cities (on a budget hello), while connecting with the local community, and properties being Insta-worthy doesn’t hurt a bit. However, it is way more than the photos, but really it’s the experiences I’m most nostalgic over, especially the ones where I travel with my husband. Whether it was celebrating our anniversary in St. Louis, staycationing in Seoul, or slow traveling through Bangkok, some of my favorite travel memories have become intertwined with the authentic vibes of Airbnb.

While I can forever gush about the awesomeness of Airbnb, I wanted to hear what other travelers were thinking. So, I reached out to some awesome bloggers and YouTubers to share their most memorable Airbnb experiences while couple traveling. So, if you have plans to visit Greece, Thailand, or heck even Chile — just know that there’s an Airbnb that’s perfect for you and your boo.

I hope you enjoy and be sure to tell me in the comments:

Where’s your favorite place to stay (as a couple, solo, or with friends/family)?

Joshua Tree, California

We chose “The Hideout” for the following reasons! It was super clean, bright, with lovely interior decoration. The location was perfect, we were super close to Joshua Tree National Park, and a 5-minute drive to many restaurants, bars, and the town center. Also, there are multiple activities: From climbing huge rocks and scaling cliffsides to visiting a cactus garden, Joshua Tree is the perfect weekend getaway from LA. We spent two nights and days exploring Joshua Tree National Park, driving around various locations and admiring the unique landscape. There are campsites, but an Airbnb is also a wonderful way to sleep with a roof over your head and still head outdoors during the daytime. For those adventurous souls, the park offers terrific opportunities for rock climbing, bouldering, and adventure sports! Tip: be sure to pack water and sunscreen, as the sun is unforgiving and there’s hardly any shade around the desert-like climate.

Athens, Greece

Our time in Greece was spectacular! It’s been a place we wanted to visit for a while and we decided a trip there for our anniversary would be perfect timing. We visited both Athens and Santorini and opted to stay in an Airbnb for Athens. We found a cute one bedroom apartment within walking distance to the main square (Monastiraki Square) with an unobstructed, balcony view of the Acropolis! We knew that this was what we were looking for. Not only was the apartment only a short walk from several restaurants, shopping, and bars, but it was only a 5-10 minute walk to the Acropolis. The host was very welcoming. She gave us tips on some great places to eat and even help to set up a taxi back to the airport for our early departure.

Jeju Island, South Korea

For our 10th Wedding Anniversary, my husband planned our trip to South Korea and chose the Airbnb lodgings for Seoul, Busan, and Jeju Island. All three of our Airbnb’s had their unique charms, but Eridu Cafe n Beds on Jeju Island won my heart. When I asked my husband why he chose Eridu, he told me that the main reason was its location (away from the tourist areas) and he wanted a “home” that we could relax, enjoy the quiet, and the beautiful scenery before venturing into the bustle of Seoul. Eridu was exactly that and more! Another selling point for me is that there was a café on site, making it easy for me to get my Americano and listen to Radiohead in the mornings (which is very chill!) I also loved that a pancake breakfast was included in the lodging price. In regards to customer service, the owners/staff were very friendly and spoke English (they even gifted a bottle of wine for our anniversary). Overall, this was a great experience and we were a little sad to leave. Eridu is the perfect place for couples looking to get away and breathe.

Ubud, Bali

My most memorable Airbnb experience was in Rumah Jepun, Ubud (Bali). We booked 4 nights, which included our wedding anniversary as well. Frankly, I wasn’t quite sure of Airbnb given that I wanted a sophisticated anniversary. However, location, to restaurants, attractions, and the monkey forest was high on our list. The accommodation was neat and serene.  We felt at home during our stay with Julie (owner) & her team. They helped us arrange my favorite chocolate cake and became a part of our anniversary celebration. She made very genuine recommendations and assisted us in arranging a local driver and a trek tour at a very short notice. It not only helped us to save some bucks but also enhanced our overall experience. I am glad we stayed at Rumah Jepun. It made my trip a very special one.

Bangkok, Thailand

I couldn’t end this blog post with ago sharing my most recent Airbnb fave! A couple months ago we celebrated my birthday and slow-travelled through Bangkok, and I cannot stop raving about the awesomeness that is Mustang Nero Hotel. The minimalistic space was everything you could ask for – clean, comfortable, a savory breakfast every morning, and the majority of the staff spoke English. The utter raw green aesthetics and vintage vibes made this a little oasis away from the world of Bangkok. It’s also great that it’s #instaworthy! The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, which was perfect for us as we wanted to slow-travel and be amongst locals and expats. We’ll definitely stay here again in the future – and I’d recommend you do too.

This is a very nice collection of airbnbs. I have only used it once and I was happy with my choice, but most of the times I find it too pricey, as most of the times I travel alone. I guess it’s very good when you are with friends and share the costs.

The view in Athens is to kill for! Airbnb is always fun to search around and find some unique and cute places. We just booked the room in tourist farm in Slovenian Alps, it looks spectacular.

I can’t believe I still have yet to try out AirBnb! I don’t really get how they call it BnB since there’s the bed, but not the breakfast, but I guess it rolls off the tongue nicely! Did you find that the prices were a happy medium between hostels and hotels? Any surprises?
